Quickly becoming one of the biggest tourist attractions outside of Queenstown, Arrowhead has essentially become a mini-Yountville in the middle of Central Otago. Set in a Victorian mansion once home to the Postmaster of the area, hence the name, today it's a mainstay food beacon for visitors to Queenstown and the nearby wine district. A cozy facade with smoking chimney and manicured walkways still looks very much the private home, albeit with a continuous queue of clientele lining up for long lunches and dressier dinners enjoyed in a elegant yet modern dining space with small bar and terrace dining during warmer months.

The Food

A remarkably refined menu with nods towards European and Asian cuisine begins with a daily selection of homemade soups easily made with a vegetarian bend. Field salads and heartier entree-size lunch selections are arranged with locally sourced produce topped with fresh shellfish or meats from area farms. Main course comes from land and sea with exotic cuts of lamb and venison as well as grilled seafood and flame-seared meats with hefty sides of potatoes, vegetables and sauces.

Last Word

Former Postmaster’s house becomes foodie hotspot in Arrowtown known for late lunches and romantic dinners complete with wine bar and lounge.
