Even with a map, you'll likely have to stop for directions before arriving to a dirt road leading to NAMM. Its name is synonymous with haute high season dining where celebrity locals like Mario Testino and Alan Faena scoop-up their favorite table for lavish feasts under the exposed sky. The restaurant is located within a dense pine forest on the rim of Jose Ignacio, a short drive from the center or town unless traveling by bike on the dead-end road that passes right by nearby dining competitor Marismo. More supper club than high-end eatery, a bamboo and teak-theme dining room features an open-plan kitchen as well as makeshift wine bar popular of late weekends and holidays. Staff is a mixture of year-round locals who know many patrons by name and always eager to share the best surfing and newest underground nightspots.

The Food

At times NAMM feels like a beach club in the South of France with its transitional menu of Japanese specialties and traditional cooking served in heavy pottery and earthenware. An evening menu begins with a tasting of homemade sushi and sashimi including specialty cut rolls as well as locally caught fish. More conventional diners discover a meat-heavy menu of grilled beef, lamb and fish available with an array of vegetable and potato sides. Pasta lovers find a few selections with a seafood twist as well as a selection of homemade soups and salads large enough for the sharing.

Last Word

Prized Jose Ignacio eatery famous for its offbeat location and uber-chic clientele that’s a fixture in high-season.
