By day it is a casual beach restaurant with fussy Malibu types talking of Pinot Grigio and pizza. By night it's one of the most romantic spots in LA as couple cuddle under stars with their favorite Cabernet. The maitre d greets guests like Lindsay Lohan, Harry Morton and Jim Carey by name, taking them to their favorite table outside on the 'preferable' patio or within the main dining room. Waiters stumble through the specials in broken Italian accents as water boys rush over with selected appetizers like flat bread and tampenade that even adults tend to eat too much of and ruin their meal.
The Food
Pasta is handmade on the premises and it’s outstanding. Raviolis comes with an assortment of fillings as simple as cheese and ricotta or as elaborate as lobster and wild mushroom. The salads consist of a classic Caesar with hand shaved Parmesan and assorted field greens of arugula, endive and organic lettuce. Entrees are best eaten with a pasta accompaniment, if possible splitting an entrée and pasta with a companion isn’t a bad suggestion. The steak filet is tender and succulent; lending an almost French red wine sauce drizzled over roasted vegetable. The fowl is almost as health conscious as the salmon and fish of the day, each attentively prepared with low-fat patrons in mind.
Last Word
Desert is an assortment of gelatos, chocolate cake and apple tartans prepared warm from the oven at one of the most overlooked dining spots in Malibu.
