Amongst a landscape of rolling sand dunes and infinite white sand beach, Rantum is one of the chicest enclaves on Germany's posh Sylt. Located on a popular beach lined in wicker strandkorbs, or wicker loungers, this single story beach bungalow has become a local institution. The decor and architecture is nothing special, aside from their location, in a homemade single-story beach shack surrounded in floor-to-ceiling glass panels overlooking the North Sea. Inside, the space is clad in wood paneling divided between a kitchy wine bar with touches of King Author and more tempered dining room that extends to an open terrace for perfect summertime dinner. The crowd is older than you would expect of a hotspot beach lounge, as with most German nightspots far more age-friendly than their English and American counterparts.
The Food
During colder spring and fall months this cheery Rantum dining room offers a cozy destination for late-afternoon supper and light dinners in a perky dining room of year-round locals and weekend visitors. The menu varies between German specialties like wursts, schnitzels and herring to more tempered salads, soups and pasta dishes. Importing their own brand of oils, honey and jams, the destination is also popular for mid-day brunch as well as high tea offering a selection of homemade tortes and pastries. In recent years the restaurant has expanded to include a gourmet store, casual fashion line and housewares boutique that are a touristy sensation.
