While some discredit such subjective criticism, the restaurant world eagerly awaits the annual arrival of The Michelin Guide much like devout foodie believers. The New York 2014 edition debuted earlier this month with 1-star newcomers like Caviar Russe with its three to ten-course tasting menus, Jonathon Benno’s Lincoln, Carbone in Greenwich Village and the incredible Jung Sik that becomes the highest rated Korean eatery in America. Eleven Madison Park, Per Se, Masa, Le Bernardin, Daniel, Jean Georges and Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare all carry-over with their 3-star Michelin status this year.
While Michelin dropped coverage of US cities Las Vegas and LA in 2010, San Francisco is basking in its additions for the year. Napa’s French Laundry and Restaurant at Meadowood maintain 3-star status while SF’s Quince (pictured) joins Atelier Crenn, Daniel Patterson’s Coi, Saison, and Benu in 2-star opulence. 1"star newcomers for the year include the reopened State Bird Provisions with its signature buttermilk fried quail served up with dinnertime smoked sturgeon pancakes that's one of America's greatest edible treasures.
As for the Chicago installment of The Michelin Guide, the third and final city covered in the US, readers and eaters will have to wait until November 13th to see who’s on top.
