With a whiter canvas than usual this year, Armory Arts Weeks kicks-off in New York with a week-long frenzy of public art exhibitions, museum soirees and The Armory Show beginning March 6th at Piers 92 and 94. Throughout Manhattan you’ll find public art displays including OLAF BREUNING: CLOUDS that’s an incredible series of polished blue aluminum clouds mounted 35 feet above Central Park’s Doris C. Freedman Plaza. In Bryant Park you’ll find Ben Tritt’s Analogia that’s two 60-foot towers with pyramid that create a temporary gateway to Bryant Park. Tickets are still available for Wednesday’s THE ARMORY PARTY at The Museum of Modern Art with performances by Blood Orange and a DJ set by Jamie xx.
The following day The Armory Show begins with some of the world’s top galleries attending one of the top contemporary art fairs in the world. This year’s OPEN FORUM speaker series includes ART VS. DESIGN IN RESIDENTIAL INTERIORS with Jonathan Adler and Sean Kelly, ART SCENE: HONG KONG NOW with Ben Brown and Adrian Cheng, FAIR VALUE: COLLECTORS IDENTIFY VALUE AT AN ART FAIR with Suzanne Gyorgy; Sean Kelly; Jill Kraus; Allan Schwartzman. This year’s geo-based FOCUS Edition highlights galleries and exhibitors from China with representatives from Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. As for the staying power of the international art fair given the amount of competitive shows from Art-Basel to the Biennale, The Armory Show seems to be a leader in the pack with more galleries than ever for 2014.
