Located in the exclusive 8th arrondissement, between Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne, the beaux-arts hotel is set in one of the Paris' chicest areas surrounded by designer boutiques and celebrity neighbors. It's stone-facade looks very much the quintessential Parisian hotel, elegantly presiding over a prime piece of quiet corner real estate with sporadic traffic - aside from the walking fashion-set. Guests enter a distinguished lobby area with Chippendale chairs and emblem-emblazoned front desk with old-school French service. The hotel features in-house Louis2 Restaurant and a tiny basement fitness center equipped with modern-treadmills and individual plasma-screens. An even tinier spa features on-demand massages and facials, but patrons are better served with a short walk to the Four Seasons Spa at the George V.
The Room
Ascending a wide-staircase, visiting residents occupy one of 93-guest rooms ranging from cozy standards to well-sized junior suites. Originally built in 1883, the hotel underwent a yearlong renovation of all guest rooms and common areas in 2001. The hotel has retained many of its original details, such as the ornate fireplaces (albeit sealed-over) and wrought iron balconies that open to neighborhood views. Renovated by Richard Martinet (Pershing Hall and George V), rooms blend contemporary design with comfortable textures and furnishings utilizing mohair fabrics, wall-to-wall carpeting and original artwork. Bathrooms are decidedly sleek complete with porcelain-white fixtures, dark marble floors and Molton Brown products (unfortunately, in large un-stealable commercial dispensers attacthed to the wall). Each room is equipped with a door hatch, from the days of butlers not wanting to bother their private guests, now used for room service deliveries without having to open the door naked.
