The deliciousness of its location is hard to debate, located directly on the Danube overlooking the Buda Castle and Chain Bridge. A replica of a big white cruise, like many that will sail by during dinner, the restaurant was launched in late 2003 as a quirky idea for a trendy eatery offering some of the town's best views and food. The result has been successful, as any pretense to eating on a ship is lost upon entering the modern reception area flanked by elegant staff and trendy modern decor. The space is divided between two restaurants, cigar bar, lounge and rooftop terrace with winter garden (greenhouse for people) for outdoor dining.

The Food

Offering traditional Hungarian cuisine, and odd-sushi menu we opted out of, the kitchen serves-up generous portions of fresh fish and meats as well as the odd salad. For those skipping the sushi, dinner begins with a fresh octopus salad or slightly heartier selection of Hungarian foie gras served in a mason jar and a bit lumpy. Summer offers a seasonal gazpacho that is a lighter choice, if present. Entrees range from Argentine-style steaks, white fish specialties and meat stews that are generously served despite their heartiness. For dessert a vanilla pannacotta is accompanied by lemon-grass and strawberries; as well as homemade ice creams and pastries.

Last Word

Unfortunately the crowd is composed of 80% tourists, a result of being surrounded by some of the town's best (and more mediocre) hotels. The rest is composed of well-heeled locals and the occasional couple strutting their dressiest evening wear. If you bore during dinner, make sure to break-towards the men's room for its amazing design and urinals overlooking the river.
