We stumbled upon Grand Beach while trying to flee the somewhat touristy V&A Waterfront where we discovered this beach club gem concealed within an architectural compound of dining room and lounge bar. Like a super-chic version of Nikki Beach minus the teak teepees and endless white slipcovers, its façade mixes a relevant warehouse design with corrugated metal roof and gilt interiors that include a 20ft. rococo white bar, rafter ceiling and seating areas adorned with 5-ft. candelabras and more casual rattan bistro chair seating. Outside, the grandest of terraces sits on the sand with Indian daybeds dotted between white-clothed tabletops and sexy assortment of showy Cape Town diners as well as a walk-up bar well stocked with Cape Town’s hottest socialites.
The Food
A bistro-style lunch and dinner menu tangles herbs and unexpected spices for creative variations of the Caesar salad, seafood Carpaccio and pizzas with traditional basil tomatoes or anchovy toppings cooked-up in a prominent wood-fire oven in the center of the dining room . Mains include grilled selection of fillet and rib eye as well as rosemary chicken and fresh seafood dishes cooked to order with sides of veggies and fries.
