One of the hottest restaurants to open along historical Long Street, Roberto’s debuted in June 2011 to immediate acclaim and local recognition for its Portuguese and Mediterranean-inspired menu of this former-One&Only chef. Located in a historic mid-rise built in 1883 by architect Charles Freeman, the building was once a YMCA before becoming this stylish eatery with sidewalk terrace lined in tall hedges. Inside, the main dining room is defined by soaring ceilings and exotic wood floors offsetting a mostly white and cream color palette of resin chairs and crisp tabletops arranged in high-end crystal and china.
The Food
A lunch and dinner menu begins with tapas selection of grilled calamari with lemon butter, mini Portugese pork sandwiches called Bifanas and Springbok carpaccio with pecorino shavings. A selection of quick meals includes Roberto’s steak roll of rump steak or Cape Town fish and chips with Castle Lager beer-batter. Main course varies between land entrees of grille baby chicken with homemade fries or selection of T-bone, fillet or rump steaks served with green salad or seafood dishes like grilled West Coast crayfish or West Coast sole with Portuguese salad.
