Once home to the 2-star Michelin eatery by Bruno Oger, the Majestic has struggled since parting ways for the star-chef. The Cannes installment of Fouquet's, however, elevates some of the burden with a quintessential French brasserie in a beach town in desperate need of good and casual dining. A fixture along Paris's Champs-Elysées for decades, the Cannes installment occupies a pool facing dining room with textured palette of red velvet, high-back chairs with tables dressed in thickly starched white tablecloths. Large wooden windows open to an outdoor deck with casual daytime vibe that gradually gets more formal by night. Attached to the restaurant is stylish bar with masculine wood paneling and gold carpeting that highlights the building deco past.
The Food
While there are chicer hotels in Cannes, no restaurant does feel-good French brasserie quite like Fouquet’s. An all-day menu includes quintessential staples like fried veal liver, Parmesan waffles with salmon mousse and Simon Duvall's famous chitterling sausages. Classic Caesar salads, terrine of foie gras with brioche and escargots with parsley and garlic are worthy of a visit alone. Main course includes lighter versions of Paris classics like roasted John Dory with white wine sauce, roasted bass with asparagus and classic osso-bucco.
Last Word
Most famous Parisian brasserie offer Cannes installment with summertime terrace at the Majestic pool.
