It's been a part of the Panarea restaurant establishment since the mid-1970s when its owner immigrated from her job as a schoolteacher on the mainland to chase the Aeolian life in Panarea. Though her intention wasn't to operate a restaurant, such was the local demand for her home-style seafood kitchen that necessitated the restaurant and subsequent on-site hotel opening a few years later. Located along one of Panarea's intertwining pedestrian streets opposite a picture-perfect deli and corner grocer, this terrace eatery is decorated like a private home with outdoor dining room adorned with heavy wood work, colorful banquettes of blue and white trimming and tabletops strewn with local olive oils and fresh artesian breads.

The Food

Operated by the original owner’s sons, in recent years a complete overhaul of Hycesia has resulted in one of the best restaurants in town complete with new chef and better connections to the local fisherman handlers. The outcome is a sensational menu of native Aeolian cuisine with pasta course that impress more than any other from the green bean and clam fettuccine and langoustine parppadelle to more traditional spaghetti carbonara and lobster risotto. Main course tends to be best ordered from the sea, but with grilled meats also available, best of which are a seared tuna with caper wine reduction and numerous swordfish dishes that are typical of the region.
