In an area that still exudes a rustic quietness altogether lacking further down 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen, this supper club and popular late-night lounge offers a grown-up dinner destination that doesn't neglect its kitchen. Dressed-up visitors and well-groomed businessmen arrive to a polished main dining room lined in high-back chairs covered in a mix of white and black slipcovers. A flowing plan of open-window architecture leaves little division between the main eating area and the bar and lounge that extends onto a front patio lined in club chairs and cocktail tables. The focal point is an eccentric back bar arranged in amber-colored chandelier with lace and crystal above a shiny white bar embezzled with mosaic tile detailing.
The Food
A lengthy, well-conceived menu of dinner and late-night dining begins with light starters of lemony ceviche, duck tacos, tuna tartare or smoked salmon turret. Four daily soups include a garlic-rich gazpacho, seafood soup and lobster bisque that’s a house favorite. Pasta course includes a shrimp fettuccine, pappardelle with meat ragu and tagliatelle with lobster complimented by entree-size spinach or arugala salads. Main course meats include hearty T-bone, rib eye and short ribs or seafood-minded salmon, snapper or lobster.
Last Word
For dessert, try to order the house-favored white or chocolate soufflé at least 30-minutes before your meal. Otherwise, the coconut cannolis are a fast and ready alternative.
