The Scene:
It’s mid-summer and your first impression of Jockey Club is a long valet line, 10-Euro parking fee and do-or-die search of for a space in the covered lot. But then the chic part begins as the sounds of sexy house music enliven a short walk along a shaded pathway leading to a series of changing rooms, beach shop and eventually the main entrance of Jockey Club. Like a Balearic version of Club 55, the beach eatery is situated on a quaff section of Platja de Ses Salines a few doors down from equally iconic Malibu Beach Club.
The Food:
The space is more of a restaurant than other bar-minded beach clubs, situated along a stylish terrace and quirky dining room with Jimmy Buffet meets Gilligan’s Island vibe. While we recognize that most of our readers would never dream of eating at the beach during summer, Jockey Club is geared towards summertime patrons who don’t really care about how they look in their swimsuits. With the occasional model or well-behaved dining exception, eaters find delightful entree salads coated in olive oil as well as a fish and meat feast of heavy lunch and dinner specialties that lure Ibiza’s local elite.
Last Word:
Not as hip as Blue Marlin or as fun as Malibu, Jockey Club is an Ibiza institution of beach club dining that lures over-40 billionaires and the size-0 women that love them.
