With outposts around the world from Tokyo to London and LA to Cape Town, master sushi chef Nobuyuki "Nobu" Matsuhisa has created a celebrity restaurant franchise that includes brands Matsuhisa and Nobu. While many of his big city eateries are freestanding restaurants, others like this one in Cape Town are located within the city's poshest hotel addresses. His first work with One & Only Resorts results in vibrant one-room eatery with high ceilings framed in glass windows and circular architectural elements. The room is divided between a long dining space line in banquettes tables and booths opposite a 10-seat sushi bar under a piece of contemporary art adorning the ceiling<br />
The Food
His first outing in Africa, ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa expands his global empire with a predictable menu of Japanese specialties that’s a virtual ‘welcome home’ for Cape Town-based fans. His trademark blend of classic Japanese cuisine incorporates fresh South African seafood and indigenous spices to create unique dishes like toro tartar, rock shrimp and scallops in yuzu sauce and mochi ice cream. More traditional dishes like Kobe tataki sashimi keep guests coming on an almost ritualistic basis.
Last Word
Calling all South African sushi fans. Nobu debuts first African outpost in opulent One & Only Cape Town Resort. While in the US it’s quite fun to order from the sushi bar, visitors to the Cape Town property should reserve a booth to properly enjoy the restaurant experience.
