In recent years nightspots like The Ivy and King Street Wharf have defined Sydney nightlife from gargantuan multi-theme venues that essentially quieted all of the competition. But now the pendulum is swings to smaller, more intimate venues like Eau de Vie by Sven Almenning that is one of the hottest afterdark scenes in all of Sydney. Hidden behind the Kirkton Hotel along Darlinghurst Road, this modern speakeasy and lounge is defined by its fashionable clientele and staff of haute (and hot) mixologists reminiscent of the turn-of-the-20th Century bars that once defined a different kind of Sydney nightlife. <br /><br />A dark and intimate space of copper-toned walls and shelf display of more alcohol than you ever though existed strikes a Victorian note with its Tiffany stained-glass lamp and heavy crystal glassware. A long wooden bar is stridden by barstools with nailhead detail and snug seating areas drawn in velvet-covered settees and club chairs. The crowd varies between artsy Potts Point locals to burgeoning celebs that consider the bar a well-guarded secret. Sadly the secret is out, but the bar is still a terrific find and one of the best in town.&nbsp; <br />
