A collaboration between Frenchman Yaan Pissenem and Fiesta Hotels, Ushuaia began in 2009 as a Balinese meets Balearic beach club created by the designer of La Maison de L'Elephant as an apparition of all-white day beds, Moroccan lanterns and white-glove eatery that doesn't mind if you show up topless. The beach club is divided between a white sand beach strewn with reservation-only loungers, indoor-outdoor dining room and fashion boutique. In 2011 the beach club became dwarfed by the staggering success of the subsequent Ushuaia Hotel and Pool Club that's one of the most successful music venues to open on Ibiza in a generation.
An antonym of the theme park-loving, Irish-pub brawling area known as Playa D'en Bossa; luxury dining and bar scenes litter the property with food but the best is still found at the beach club led by chef Pedro Monje who dazzles with a Mediterranean menu of sushi appetizers, seafood platters, salads, gourmet desserts and beachy appetizers. By night the space morphs to full nightclub status with late night lounge for those taking a breather from the summertime mega-events by DJs like Martin Garrix and David Guetta inside the neighboring Ushuaia Beach Hotel.
Tips
It's the toughest guest list of the summer season. If you can't snag a lounger with your name or face, reserve a table and live large. Afterward insist they give you a lounger near the water.
Last Word
Summer 2012 kicked-off in late May with weekly parties starting in early July by Swedish House Mafia every Wednesday, Luciano every Friday and David Guetta on Mondays through September.
