Cavalli Club Dubai
The Scene:
Visitors arrive to a private entrance separate from the main lobby and additional lobby lounge of the hotel. A well-secured red carpet and velvet rope guard the entrance to a club that cost $30-million to build but still feels forced to lead you through the entryway boutique offering accessories, jewelry, watches, designer tableware and Cavalli chocolates. The interior of the two-story club is the combination of supermodel after-party and glittery sound stage with quartz floor revolving around an architectural bar with encrusted sequins and glittery crystal detailing.
Club Cavalli is divided between several smaller lounges outfitted in animal-print furnishings and lily-shaped dance floor attended by DJs spinning electronic house and pop-flavored hip-hop. Upstairs is a fine dining Italian restaurant with similar leopard-print disco scene at one end and a suspended gold-glass sushi bar and lounge/dance pad at the other. The crowd is a mix-and-mash of local socialites, various royal bad boys and good-looking tourists ldestned for one good night out in Dubai.
JetSet Tips:
Opening night guests should include Estelle, Mariah Carey and British supermodel Kate Moss. But prior to press, Naomi Campbell had already canceled and local weather was hovering well over 100-degrees. After opening festivities, expect the club more easily accessible with dinner reservation or guest list request.
Last Word:
While most North Americans associate Fairmont Hotels with withered second-tier luxury hotels in places like SF and Vancouver, several franchise properties outside the US including Dubai are the best hotel addresses in the city. Add to the equation Roberto Cavalli, who debuts the second outpost of hi glittery Cavalli Club within the new palace-like Dubai Fairmont, and you’ll realize why the hotel is a hit.
