Last parties, last weekends of Summer 2015

August 31, 2015 10.58 PM

For most of the US and Europe, the next few weekends mark the unofficial end of the summer season and with it the end of high-season from the Hamptons and Malibu to Cannes and Marbella. In the Hamptons that means one last round of sunsets at Montauk’s Navy Beach before the final two Saturdays at Montauk Beach Club or the Surf Lodge and its summer concert series that features Wild Belle over Labor Day Weekend. In Malibu, Mastro’s Ocean Club and Nobu defined a hotter, more humid summer as weekends were greeted with bumper-to-bumper traffic and city folk bemoaning the color of Malibu’s water.

In Europe’s pedigree hotspots, St. Tropez proved quieter for the year with Bagatelle Beach and Nikki Beach luring later and later at Pampelonne Beach while L’ Opera and VIP Room made the case for partying from sunset to sunrise. In Porto Cervo, another VIP Room made strides in its second year at one of Costa Smerald’s prettiest harbors while Billionaire and Sottovento kept their Italian clientele happy with Milan and Rome’s top DJs. Bodrum returned to its roots with summer regulars returning to town from previous years in faraway Amanruya and Mandarin Oriental that feel oh-so-removed. In Marbella, Spain and UK tabloid society merged at nightclubs like Cavalli Club in Puerto Banus that’s but one in the resort’s migration to A-List summer destination.

In Ibiza, smaller parties proved chicer than the mega-DJ promoted events that have defined previous seasons. Foodie sensations like Heart by the Adria Brothers proved a tough sell to showier yacht patrons that preferred a simple night at Cipriani or Pacha’s Lio. A lack of exciting new hotel developments also meant a house rental was essential unless your plans were secured months in advance for Cas Gasi or Giri Residence. But when the story of summer is written, however, it will be Mykonos that was the place to be with its Scorpios Beach Club that proved the hottest place to be for summer 2015.
