Design Hotel
On first sight it reminded us of a more charming version of the Belvedere on Mykonos, cast on a gardened hillside above the Aegean in Bodrum's Türkbükü. A series of low-flung buildings with flat rooftops and cobblestone walls define the main resort complex that meanders to a tranquil lagoon style pool and series of stairways that lead to the waterfront eatery and dock-style beach club that's known for its collection of July and August billionaires on leave from Istanbul. Interiors feature a lounge-style lobby with walls open to the elements and Aegean winds. Furnishings are spare and stylish, with the main reception arranged in polished cements floors and minimalist arrangement of arty chairs and cushy sofas. A reservation at the hotel ensures top seating at the in-house eatery offering a stellar menu of seafood and innovative Turkish resort cuisine with lounge bar scene that thrives well past midnight during peak summer months.
The Room
Renovated for the 2012 season, rooms bring a more all-white Aegean design to all categories with white wood flooring and drapery with a lazy pleat that looks oh-so-fashionable in the evening wind. Entry-level rooms are little more than a full-size bed and couple of side tables with local artwork and small terrace facing a garden landscape. Larger suites are well conceived with lounge area divided by geometric bookcases filled with quirky bric-a-brac with a homemade flair. Bathrooms feature selection of Aqua di Parma bath products in addition to chunky robes for early morning saunters to the on-site spa with steam rooms, hamam and fitness center.
