Boutique Hotel
In the shade of glamour palaces like the Majestic and Martinez, Hotel 3.14 is a mostly undiscovered Cannes boutique hotel that a fixture for the Parisian party set on weekend hiatus. Located a block up from the Croisette adjacent to the Carlton, a modern beaux-arts building captured in perfect white contains the eccentric design oasis of Hotel 3.14. Like Alice in Disco Wonderland, an entryway bathed in moody amber lighting contained a neon-lit fountain and chariot chairs by Phillip Starck that surround the desk-style reception. Walls are adorned with modern artwork and mirrored bookshelves with mix of crystal chandeliers and Moroccan lanterns.
Not a place that shies away from ultra suede fabrics and disco balls, the in-house bar and Cink restaurant offers a playful oasis that looks better by cocktails and dim lighting with sexy following of Parisians that overlook the sometimes garish décor in lieu of top-notch DJs and social following. A popular spot for private parties, the hotel served as outpost of Le Baron for several installments of the Film Festival. A rooftop pool has good view of Cannes from a handful of loungers and small gastro-bar home to the pop-up installment of Nobu for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Far more preferable, however, is the 3.14 Beach Club with private strip of sand and micro-spa sponsored in the summer by Colette with a sexy contingent of revelers that know how to have fun in the sun.
The Room
Built on the premises of proper feng shui, a series of content-theme guest floors include themes like America, Africa and Oceania. Asia was our favorite floor, simply because it was the most straightforward with sparse décor, simple living room and zen-theme artwork in lieu of the Africa floors and its suites of red carpets and royal blue bedroom with purple ultra-suede bedspreads and blue-green-and-red mosaic tile shower. Better for guests that pass out at 2am following a night in the lounge than those that linger in the room and notice details like dirty caulking and worn linens, Hotel 3.14 is a playful party palace that doesn’t mind showing its years of good use.
