Bernadus is the award-winning lodge by the makers of the winery by the same name owned by Holland-native Ben Pon who was a former racecar driver and skeet-shooting Olympiad who with his wife Ingrid arrived to the Carmel Valley looking to create traditional Bordeaux-style red wines. <br /><br />Bernardus Lodge is cast amongst the rolling hillside of the Carmel Valley wine region within a European revival spa-theme luxury ranch home to Marinus eatery by celebrated chef Cal Stamenov as well as more casual Wickets. Days are spent at various organized tastings at the Bernadus or neighboring wineries, horseback riding and at the signature Spa with its Patricia A. Quall artwork, meditation garden, sauna steam rooms and blissful soaking pool.
The Room
A series of two-story resort buildings home to 57 rooms are captured between a large resort pool and panoramic views of the winery estate. Visitors arrive to the knock of room service delivering vintage wine and cheese as well as explaining the in-room "wine grotto" mini bar. Rooms feature an upscale spa aesthetic with rustic charm for fluffy feather beds draped in Italian linens near gas fireplaces and seating arrangement of club chairs of sofa. Terraces and large balconies are accessed through French doors, with large outdoor spaces for morning breakfast.
