Walking along the shaded promenade of Lincoln Road it's difficult to tell to good restaurants from bad, but Quattro is a recognizable standout. The glamorous rear bar area is visible from the street, its mirrored tile wall with elaborate liquor display and shiny zebrawood detailing. The formal dining room stands in juxtaposition of everything in the area, preferring a dignified dining room of ebonized chairs with white leather upholstery and creamy chocolate banquette in lieu of the edgier and louder design schemes. Guests enter through the front terrace divided on either side of the sidewalk under rectangular white canopies with black piping. Tables are set with crisp white table but with scaled down wine glasses and average-quality white dinnerware. A hostess desk is attended by a leggy lineup of South Beach's finest that hurry guests to their tables and ensure that reservation times are met with promptness, otherwise that inside table is swapped for one on the outside patio for anyone running more than 10-minutes late.
The Food
A leather-bound menu of Northern Italian cuisine is created by identical 29-year-old twin chefs Nicola and Fabrizio Carro, who aren’t bad to look-at either. With cooking techniques that defy their young age and relatively modest experience, the duo cook-up a melodious menu of homemade pastas paired with traditional beef and seafood dishes. Meals begin with two-versions of buffalo-mozzarella caprese, beef or a rather-bland swordfish carpaccio, or even less impressive seafood bisque. The selection of homemade pastas is sensational including a beef-stuffed ravioli with savory stew or pricier risotto with fresh white truffles. Entrees like pounded chicken breast with tomato ragout and veal scallopine are better than the pan-seared tuna or Orata, and highlight the traditional Italian cuisine that the chefs do best.
