One of Dubrovnik’s top restaurateurs operates four popular around the walled city with Lokanda Peskarija being the most picturesque. Along the main fishing harbor that likely transports most of what you’ll be eating from hook to fork, the restaurant presides over a picturesque section of portside waterfront with interior dining room cocooned within the historic city walls for an elaborate two story dining room under a chunky beam ceiling and intricate woodwork worthy of a museum. Sadly, most summer visitors never even see the restaurant interiors instead sitting under oversize white umbrellas along the waterfront terrace dining room.

More causal than the handful of Dubrovnik gourmands that line the old town, this stylish seaside eatery offers a regional menu of seafood and meat specialties that’s a carnivore’s dream but also a vegetarian’s grim Croatian reality. Dinner is a menagerie of platters of calamari, grilled octopus and homemade pasta topped with fresh-caught whole fish. Salads and grilled veggies tend to the sparse and soggy side, heavy on dressing or steamed beyond recognition unless requested in advance. Dessert is a surprisingly mix of homemade cakes and pastries, on the Italian side, with local gelatos and sorbets for hot summer nights.
