The chatty macaw that simply won't die, Blue Parrot is a little Mexican cantina and dive bar located behind the posh boutiques and reservation-only restaurant of East Hampton's Main Street. The type of bar local celebrities like Bon Jovi, Renee Zellweger and Ron Perlman could find an everyday Bohemia of frozen margaritas and attitude-free door is part of the reason behind the three celebrities investing in the restaurant's comeback. After closing in 2006, the two-room eatery and patio is back in business looking not unlike it did in the 'good ole days.' Caribbean vibes are plenty with the lime-painted walls and bright blue floor offset by bentwood bistro chairs and drinking bar with a deep patina opposite a covered patio with orange-striped awning.

The Food

Mexican food with a whiff of Caribbean vibe, Blue Parrot has never really been about gourmet cuisine. Not above a basket of chips and salsa, a playful selection of appetizers presents a t-shirt and flip-flop crowd with an all-day menu of appetizers and seemingly endless summertime happy hour. A casual menu of classic Mexican dishes is spiced-up with local seafood, organic meats and poultry to create the antithesis of a fancy village dining room. Two-handed classic mason jars yield some of the best-frozen margaritas and sangria in the Hamptons, as well as the signature shooters and new list of exotic cocktails.

Last Word

Beloved Blue Parrot returns to East Hampton with refreshed look, updated menu and new circle of celebrity investors looking to keep the last cheap-chic dive café alive for another generation.
