It's a design jewel that almost no one outside of Paris knows about, namely the breathtaking La Maison Champs Elysées with interiors penned by Maison Martin Margiela. Its location between Avenue Montaigne and the Grand Palais makes it just far enough removed from the more touristy elements of its namesake boulevard and close enough to hop over to rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré for shopping. A classic Haussmann building that once housed students of the Ecole Centrale has been conceptualized by of Martin Margiela into a showstopper boutique hotel accessed through a serine lobby of all white detailing from its polished marble floors to the intricate cream-colored French paneling.
Inside, furnishings have been covered in finely tailored white slipcovering from oversize settees to dining room chairs that lends an ethereal, fashionable feel accented in transparent pendant lighting. Carpets are juxtaposed to matching ceiling detail with walls trimmed in chrome art lighting but with non-existent artwork covered in cloth. Entertaining spaces include a cocktail lounge with piano and cigas bar in addition to full-sevice La Table du 8 Restaurant with summer terrace led by chef Benoît Hilaire.
The Room
A divided house include 40 entry-level hotel rooms that include simple queen-and king bed configurations offering a creamy color palette of neutral linen curtains, dark wood side tables and and simple slipcovered settees. A further 17 couture rooms are designed by Maison Martin Margiela with spaces like the Lost Molding Suite where crown detailing “start and finish at random, like a work in progress” with sliding side doors separate living area and bedroom. Even more opulent is the Gilded Lounge Suite with wallpaper made from black and white photographs of the gilded library with Napoleon III style that extends over two floors. Bathrooms are spare, simple spaces with redundant white tile and black grouting that extends to a bath, Italian style shower and double basin sink.
