For some the name Cipriani means posh Venice luxury hotel, for others it's a famous NY eatery with outpost in London. From the side of the Cipriani family that started Harry's Bar in Venice and prized London eatery comes a new Los Angeles hotel in a rare hilltop location and James Bond-like Mr. C Hotel and Restaurant name all with a thoroughly quaff Italian accent. Located in a 60s high-rise once called the Tower Hotel, the building is benefiting from a Cipriani-worthy overhaul evident from a grand motorcourt trimmed in white limestone leading to a fashionable lobby styled in tufted lounge seating and endless burl paneling. A new destination eatery is an LA replica of the London and NY Cipriani eateries. Just beyond the restaurant, a beach club-style pool deck offers designer cabanas and outdoor bar next to a splashy but small pool. Up next, plans for a penthouse banquet hall include a new social lounge likely to be the toast of globetrotting elite.
The Room
A high-rise style hotel has been retrofitted from top to bottom including stylish, expensive new windows that hotels like The London and even the Regent neglected to do. A series of loft-style guest rooms are lined in walls of glass revealing exaggerated views of downtown LA and Century City skyline as well as an unfortunate vantage of the grocery store strip mall just across the street that looks a bit better from above than head-on. Honey-colored hardwood floors and lined in sisal carpets with walls trimmed in black and white Hollywood photography. Black leather Eames lounger, shiny walnut headboards and T mounted on art easels are but some of the style details that make this hotel standout a bit above the rest of the luxury boutique competition.
