Much of the last decade has been spent shopping Dubai's The Mall and rotating between one new mega-hotel to the next, few resorts have managed to capitalize on the wild desert frontier we belileve makes the UAE so truly unique. That was until Banyan Tree Al Wadi located near Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE's most northern emirate, which is flanked by rolling red sand dunes and infinite desert landscape ideal for wadi safaris that are an ideal weekend break from Duabi.
About an hour away from Dubai, a wild desert wilderness awaits interrupted by the an architectural oasis home to new 18-hole championship golf course, horse and camel staples and spa pavilion for holistic yoga experience. The spa features an unmatched Rainforest experience of ice igloos, saunas, rai showers and vitality pool. The area is a healthy dose of nature often craved after a few days in Dubai, home to Arabian gazelles, gnus and wild camels as well as migratory birds and sea life found on a private beach.
Thoroughly Asian-inspired architecture features a mix of cubist modern spaces accented by tented roofline with a free-form infinity pool facing a vast desert landscape of blissful nothingness. Three restaurants include an outpost of Banyon's Thai fusion Saffron as well as Samar Bar and Moon Lounge open to a not-so-late 12am.
The Room
If gorgeous were a three syllable word it would be adept to describing the removed desert wonderland where Banyan Tree offers a series of freestanding and tented pool villas ideal for a warm winter getaway. Along a series of elevated and paved walkways, visitors arrive to their own micro-compounds inspired by the traditional mud brick architecture of Ras Al Khaimah. Perhaps one of the only resorts in Dubai to compliment existing topography verses implementing its own, villas infuse classic Arabic design elements amongst toweling ceilings and walls of glass facing furnished terraces and sexy dipping pools. Tented rooms are even bigger; quaff boudoirs with day beds and sun loungers worthy of their own wild Arabian romance " as long as it’s kept legally indoors.
