Boutique Hotel
Los Angeles has witnessed its fair share of bumps during the recession especially within the development of its Hollywood district. Originally slatted to be Palihouse Hollywood, the second act to the successful boutique hotel in West Hollywood by the same name, The Redbury is now managed by the owners of SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills who also finished its stylish innards. The Redbury is located at Hollywood and Vine, a super chic boutique concept in the shade of the ominous W Hollywood towers that are the antithesis of the hotel's approachable reddish-colored street frontage with circus-meets-Moulin Rouge inspired marquee.
On the inside celeb-photography Mathew Rolston was responsible for creating a saturating look that mixes flower-power throws with gold paisley wallpaper and Martin Baas-designed smoke chairs with red velvet curtains that feel like Kelly Wearstler gone Manson - a bit of Charles and a bit of Marilyn. Located directly opposite SBE's Katsuya Hollywood sushi restaurant, The Redbury has a built in clientele for its new Cleo restaurant with Mezze specialties and vegetarian menu from an in-house stone oven.
The Room
Rooms at the Redbury were originally aimed to be loft-style mini apartments similar to found at West Hollywood’s Palihouse, its once slatted sister-property. Today, dark character-filled spaces are reminiscent of Paris’s Hotel Costes meets a modern version of Chateau Marmont with heavy drapery, Persian rugs, four poster beds with colorful quilts and down comforters and ebonized hardwood floors that give a design lesson to the garish nearby W Hollywood. A total of 57 rooms still include a floorplan of open style kitchens that are rather modern and white juxtaposed to the more boho-chic vibe of the remaining rooms. Bathrooms are clad in black squared mosaic tiles with single counter-mounted modern sinks that the owners probably did the best they could to camouflage their pre-recession uber-modern loft styling.
