Design Hotel
On the south stretch of Palm Canyon just outside of downtown near epicenter of cool Ace Hotel, Sparrows Hotel sits in a ranch-style property that's a step beyond anything you've seen in Palm Springs development to date. In a design feat that takes this desert city away from its mid-century fixation and back to its roots as a farmstead oasis once home to properties like Deepwell Ranch, the former-owners of Korakia debut this designer retreat that will impress even desert-haters. Once a forgettable motel, the main structures of the property have remained intact with central pool area now coated in native flagstone and rustic barn now infused with outdoor kitchen and poolside bar. A soothing zen aesthetic is managed above this thoroughly pioneer farmstead-theme micro resort with native citrus trees dotting the grounds that include an organic garden, trio of tennis courts with vintage wooden rackets provided, and small design Shop with neighborhood finds.
The Room
Taking over this-former motel, its owners have transformed all 20-guest rooms that include garden rooms facing the outdoor kitchen dining room, fireplace suites with larger spatial footprint and owners suite with private entrance. Interiors have been fully reimagined with exposed, pitch ceiling and floor of poured concrete pads with river rock detailing between. Walls feature exposed boards and stacked stone detailing with integrated bathrooms with bathtubs made out of vintage horse troughs. Most rooms feature some sort of private outdoor space, some more private than others, adorned in chunky Adirondack chairs.
