Luxury Resort
Without hesitation, one of the best resorts in the Caribbean offers the exclusivity of a private island amongst a stylish crowd of UK travelers lured by the names Como and Shambhala. Como Hotels is a familiar name on the London hotel circuit with glittery Mayfair outposts The Metropolitan and Halkin offering 5-star accommodations for a celebrity-and-model set. Visitors arrive via commercial flight or private jet at Providenciales Airport where Parrot Cay staff whisks them away ala James Bond to an all-white speed boat that connects to the island in around a half-hour.
From afar, Parrot Cay looks like Shangri-la meets sugar plantation in the middle of a 1000-acre private island with miles of deserted sand beaches and plantation-style hotel of coral colors and exposed porches with fingerling of villas encompassing the main property. The lobby is lined in terracotta tiles in a palette of white ceiling and natural stone walls strewn with petrified wood artwork and low-flung decor that oozes spa-appeal. The lobby connects to a billiards room with a porch never far-away with direct access to the Lotus Bar and Eatery.
The sprawling resort property includes a full-service gym, dazzling pool that's perking with sexy young couples and beach access with snorkeling or kayaking. Owners of acclaimed Shambhala Spa, the Parrot Cay property offers an extensive selection of day and multi-day programs that can mean a simple morning yoga session or a comprehensive cleanse and detox program over an entire stay.
The Room
A total of 58 rooms and villas are located within the main building and outlying, free-standing bungalows located close to the main resort. Rooms feature a tropical Key West architecture of exposed porches, glossy white walls and pitched ceilings reminiscent of the Caribbean's great plantation houses. Rooms are outfitted minimally, to reflect the modern styling of the resort, with free-standing canopy beds lined in premium Irish linen or Italian cotton. Garden-facing rooms leave a bit to be desired, on the mostly-nature interior gardens of wild vegetation that's always green but sometimes lacking in flowers. Ocean view rooms come with a 20% premium, but well worth the expense given the amazing sunsets and secluded balconies.
