Resort Hotel
It's the hotel opening of the year, perhaps the decade, as Argentine hotelier Alan Faena debuts his lavish hotel, residences and cultural center to Miami Beach. Opened to coincide with Art Basel 2015, visitors arrive to an address close to Soho Beach House and the Edition but with amenities as varied as a destination museum, cabaret theater, restaurant by Francis Mallmann and high-rise tower with residents that include billionaire CEO's and celeb elite.
The Room
The main hotel occupies the former Saxony Hotel, a deco landmark that been reimagined with interiors by movie director Baz Luhrmann and his wife costume designer Catherine Martin. Together, they create a vivid and provocative palette that deviates from the minimalist white and rustic boho style of recent Miami properties for a cinematic gusto with nods of Argentine red, exotic woods and ornate decor. The overall experience reminds of Faena’s Buenos Aries hotel property albeit with an oceanfront backdrop. Like the Fontainebleau and Delano before it, Faena Saxony Hotel may change the direction of Miami hotel design or be one of the most expensive design flops in modern hospitality.
