Boutique Hotel
Once Mexico City's up-and-coming fashion hood, Condesa has slowly gentrified into a modern-day Soho complete with tourist-clogged streets, not-so-trendy-anymore stores and boutique hotels marketed by global marketing chains from Design Hotels to Kiwi and Tablet. Condesa df was one of the first and still the best of the area, hidden behind a 19th Century mid-rise with hallowed-out architectural interior by an acclaimed European designer. A reversible structure of inward and outward facing guest rooms and common areas, virtually every surface of the hotel is covered in sleek glass or smooth white plastering plus a lot of slatted teaks beginning to show their age.
Guests arrives to a lively first floor lobby with reception and nearby restaurant composed of aquamarine-colored interior spaces arranged in cowhide banquettes and wooden stools that extend into an adjacent bar with open-air atrium offering a spirited ground of Condesa hipsters and aspiring models. Playful spaces define Condesa, from the lobby boutique that sells body lotions and bikinis to the basement dance hall and cinema with its driftwood décor and drive-in style seating sans automobiles. Up on the rooftop, ever-popular La Terraza still dazzles with a perimeter lounge with circular banquettes and light sushi menu available till midnight throughout the week.
The Room
The structural nature of the building means interior-facing hallways with doors exposed to a central garden atrium ala Embassy Suites 1990 but all white and far chicer. Corridors can be closed off via glossy white shutters that keep out the rain and nighttime noise. Entry-level Patio and Balcony Rooms are compact and efficient spaces with tile floors and wood-paneled room dividers that separate the sleeping and bathroom area. Bathrooms lack any type of luxury details, bur with double sinks and soaking tub in the very best suites. Upper level terrace rooms offer wrap-around outdoor areas with one-of-a-kind outdoor furnishings with views of Condesa and in-room crash pad to keep the party going once the rooftop closes at 12am.
