Design Hotel
You've likely known this hotel as either The Perry South Beach Hotel or Gansevoort South Hotel, the two processors of the highly stylized 1 Hotel along Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. A new hotel brand from former Starwood alum, the property has an affiliate in NYC with plans on the way for more high-end urban destinations. For its Miami installment, an environmental design hotel penned by interior designer Debora Aguiar mixes rustic, reclaimed nodes of driftwood, timber and soothing natural linens in a lobby that connects to a rooftop pool deck and in-house Beachcraft by Tom Colicchio. With an environmentally friendly ethos, the property includes four swimming pools with varying degrees of daytime sun, a spa and massive private beach accessed through a somewhat unsightly staircase that connects the high-rise property with the sea.
The Room
At over 400-rooms, 1 Hotel towers above Collins Avenue and a narrow strip of sand just north of South Beach. Fully renovated, after a previous renovation just eight years ago, interiors benefit from a tasteful and not-too-trendy overhaul by New York-based Meyer Davis Studio. Walls of glass offer head-on sea views with some spaces lacking from afternoon light given the hotel’s architecture. Inside, elevated living areas with sophisticated décor connect to large terraces and lofty bedrooms with spa-style baths that exude that very 2015 aesthetic of natural woods, raw stones and boho decor.
