For anyone that arrives in Porto Cervo for the first time and bemoans the uber-modern architecture with not a hint of old Italy, San Pantaleo is a fashionable refuge in the hills just south of the starry port town. A charming village of period stone buildings, one-off stores and piazza with lone café is set back from the main road where you'll find this gastro-hotel under the management of a tenacious husband-wife management. An exterior staircase leads to the upper level dining room cast in walls of stacked stone with windows facing a jagged mountain panorama. Tables are well spaced from each other and laid in starched white linens with service that seems destined for culinary greatness.
The Food
A Sicilian chef orchestrates a menu of locally sourced produce and seafood for dishes that begin with a selection of homemade breads followed by incredible soups, hand-forged salads topped with grilled seafood and variation of the classic carpaccio. Pasta yours yields a wow moment, delicately stuffed with meat and vegetable puree. Main course is a mix and match of local beef or pork dishes as well as the signature seafood that is hard to beat.
