In a town full of posh dining options, Hysteria is a more casual hideaway along the main port albeit closer to an unsightly car park that's luckily well hidden from view. Its playful design feels like the kind of place you'd stumble upon in Miami's South Beach or perhaps Havana long ago, its open architecture with long terrace of painted tile floors and colorful tropical chairs with a 50s vibe. Inside, Edison bulbs sway from a long light fixture with ceiling monogramed in various Italian phrases that hint of the menu that waits. The crowd tends more towards locals in every month but July and August when an invasion of yacht trippers and sunglass bedecked visitors lay claim to the village of St. Tropez.

The Food

A menu that has grown since its 1989 inauguration offers a lunch and dinner option with starters like charcuterie platters, grilled octopus and sea bream ceviche. A wood fire over delivers fresh focaccia or heartier pizza options like the Tropezienne with eggplant and meat, tuna with capers that’s locally loved and Diavola with spicy salami. Late afternoon salads are a house favorite with Caesar, Nicoise and melon options. Main course includes grilled fish selections with vegetable sides or King prawns, fresh tuna or T-bone steak.
