An urban Francophile brasserie created by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi and Jeff Zalaznick, Dirty French is located in The Ludlow hotel on NY's Lower East Side. The space maintains the gritty appeal of the LES, but infused with whimsical elements of reclaimed objects ala Paris's Les Puces. Simple bistro chairs and wooden tables contrast mosaic floors and exposed rafter ceiling among oversize carnival mirror with theater light bulbs and a wrap-around 20-seat bar stocked with the neighborhood's finest.
The Food
An impressive mixology menu and wine list lead to an articulate dinner service of lamb carpaccio with yogurt, foie gras terrine and tuna tartare. Chevre with kale salad and Frissee aux Lardons impress, leading in a main course of bouillabaisse with octopus, duck or lamb rotisserie and Cote de boeuf for two.
Last Word
