For those familiar with the Hamptons dining scene, Tutto il Giorno needs little explanation if perhaps how to get a reservation on any Saturday in August. Its husband/wife owners Gabby Karan and chef Gianpaolo DeFelice bring this Long Island institution to a chic turn-of-the-century building in Tribeca. The coastal chic style retreats for an urban sanctuary of wide-plank wood floors and minimalist chairs at spare, naked tables of reclaimed wood. The street-to-garden space overlooks a rear terrace with vertical garden and all the decorating accoutrement one would expect of Karan and her work with Urban Zen that's co-owned by her designer/mother Donna Karan.
The Food
Recruiting its Tribeca chef directly from Naples, the flavors of Tutto di Girono evolve into dishes like grilled octopus with potatoes, lobster caprese, crunchy calamari and spicy tuna tartare with avocado. Pasta course includes clam linguine, eggplant penne, paccheri with Neapolitan ragu and sausage rigatoni with homemade sausage. Main course varies between Branzino with roasted potatoes and slow-braised veal cheeks to roast chicken and pork chop with a regional Italian kick.
