Figli di Papa Casual Italian bistro by hot local chef

  • The Scene:

Occupying a historic perch in central Ravello that was formerly an aristocratic palace in the late-12th Century, this relatively young restaurant (15-years old) by Ravello standards offers an innovative menu in the laid-back village setting. Visitors arrive to a misleading entryway along the main pedestrian drag, past a crackling fireplace and through a series of arched rooms leading to the pitched-roof dining room that's surprisingly modern with its crisp rattan décor, tile floors and whitewashed walls. The room is arranged in a refreshingly modern design contrary to the many centuries-old establishments in central Ravello, with bright watercolors from local artists and summer locals that have watched the restaurant grow from good to great over the years.

  • The Food:

A traditional Italian menu with modernized touches begins with a classic caprese with tomatoes grown from local fields and heaping of mozzarella, mix charcuterie plate of salamis and cheeses or Misto di Mare composed of anchovies, prawns and grilled octopus. Pasta course is a treasure and should not be skipped. Crespolini (crepes) stuffed with minced meat and ricotta is a local tradition but not nearly as miraculous as the Scialatielli with seafood or simple gnocchi with creamy tomato sauce. Main course is an incomparable veal scaloppini with lemon, hefty mixed grilled meat platter or oven-baked fish of the day.

  • Last Word

Don’t miss the desert course and its homemade specialties like Tiramisu the size of a brick, profiteroles with homegrown lemon cream and Caprese Torte with chocolate chips and almonds.
