Edible Layovers at these Airports

April 07, 2014 04.51 PM

We all know about the posh layovers that can be had at LHR, Changi, CDG and Dubai; but a few less obvious cities offer equally grand airline lounges and new in-terminal destinations worth planning a layover around. LAX is wrapping up a series of upgrades that include new eateries like Suzanne Goin’s Larder by Tavern and our favorite Petrossian Caviar in the new Tom Bradley International Terminal. At New York’s La Guardia new eateries include Victory Grill and Minnow by Andrew Carmellini, Washington Dulles pulls in farm-to-table Bar Symon by celeb chef Michael Symon and Houston does 3rd Bar Oyster & Eating House by Bryan Carswell.

In Amsterdam there’s Bubbles Seafood Bar and in Stockholm we can’t get enough of Kitchen & Table by Marcus Samuelsson. An early arrival is essential in Barcelona for visiting Porta Gaig by Catalan chef Carles Gaig and all its small plate wonders. And for one last bite of sushi in Tokyo, Narita’s Sushiden awaits in Terminal 2. For those that like to indulge in their Premium class airline lounges, everyone seems to be talking about the Turkish Airlines lounge in Istanbul with its incredible menu of regional specialties while revamped The Wing, Cathay Pacific’s First Class Lounge in Hong Kong, continues its upgrades by Foster + Partners that include a newly redesigned champagne bar.
