New in Ibiza, St. Tropez and Hamptons

May 18, 2015 12.29 PM

As May hits its halfway mark, the hills of Ibiza are alive with the sound of house. As the annual opening parties begin to sweep the island, talk of DJ exclusives by Guetta, Harris and Angello spreads ahead of announced events at Ushuaia, Pacha and Space. Intermittent rain showers keep the Rosé cooled at Experimental and Blue Marlin, while near Dalt Vila the finishing touches are put on new Heart by El Bulli's Adia Brothers. The triple-threat Michelin star duo are teaming with Cirque du Soleil to create a theatrical dinner experience with late-night dance floor along the marina waterfront at Ibiza Gran Hotel.

"The wine is better and so is the food," scoff Saint-Tropez locals where nightlife has emerged from cavernous clubs like Les Caves du Roy and VIP Room to terrace lounge spots like Opera that was the pink-hued toast of last summer. This year, long-time Le Papagayo is being fully overhauled to make room for the latest yet-to-be-named addition to debut in June. At Pampelonne Beach along the stretch of sand north of Le Club 55, new Riva Beach Club has been cleared through the local commissioning board and alas has an opening date set for mid-June. A rustic mostly-whitewash indoor/outdoor dining room will mix a seasonal French seafood menu with nightly sunset DJ sessions.

Seaplane or Helicopter? That's the question you'll need to answer getting to the Hamptons this summer. Newly expanded Gotham Air offers a 35-minute service to East Hampton from NYC with a fleet of quiet copters propelled by Rolls Royce engines that somehow make us feel a lot safer than the quirky puddle jumpers. Once there, you'll find old names like Philippe Chow back along Three Mile Harbor Road complete with new late-night lounge. Tracy Anderson addicts will find their home in Sag Harbor this season while Soul Cycle spins into Montauk. And proof of all the Hamptons workouts can be strutted at the revamped Gurney's with its five new venues that include Scarpetta Beach, The Regent Cocktail Club and an all-new beach club perfect for early summer showoffs.
