JETSETREPORT

Where summer lingers past September

September 09, 2014 02.03 PM

Closing parties are in full swing on Ibiza, St. Tropez's party crowd has long pulled-up its anchor, weekends in the Hamptons are a whole lot quieter and Porto Cervo is a virtual no man's land. But there are a few places where summer is still in full swing even once the end of September has come and gone.

While most beach clubs are still fully packed along the South of France and Italian Riviera, nightlife retreats to weekend-only hours as hotel and villa rates drop almost by half. Beach cities like Barcelona, Athens and Nice thrive as more far-flung destinations like Tangier and Armani's beloved Pantelleria lure those that altogether avoid June-August travels. In the Middle East, Dubai suffers quietly through summer with this month bringing numerous venue reopening's leading up to Sensation electronic music festival on October 31st. The roof lounges and clubs of the Bosphorus in Istanbul take on more of a local feel with some of the top events of the year through the month. And in Beirut, The Garten is the hottest scene of the summer in a new location that's far more convenient for residents and visitors.

In the US, Las Vegas pool party season hits its stride as DJs like Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Avicii double down on weekly events and the new SLS Hotel revs into full opening. LA keeps it poolside at new urban-y The Line Hotel and Beverly Hills Hotel that's blissfully deserted thanks to that boycott. Laguna Beach enjoys its warmest days of the year plus high surf that makes for ideal wave watching from your bed at the Surf and Sand or atop Butterfly Beach at Montecito's Coral Casino Beach Club that actually gets sunshine in September.
