Luxury Hotel

We usually frown on international conglomerates in cities like Buenos Aries that's rich in architectural landmarks and charming boutique hotels. But Palacio Duhau that's home to Park Hyatt is in a league of its own. In the heart of the French Heritage district in Recoleta, this early 20th century residence once belonged to a famous Argentine land baron before rising as a 5-star address in 2004 that's taken on nearby competitors Four Seasons and Alvear Palace.  A stylish and more native design property than either, Park Hyatt today stands as a pedigree address that mixes minimalist luxury with opulent architectural details that fulfill the wide-eye wonderment of first-time Buenos Aries visitors. Inside, a belle-époque palace aesthetic presides among white wood paneled rooms juxtaposing black marble floors and sparer décor of Mies Van der Rohe and Le Courbusier inspired pieces. Elaborate passageways lined in Corinthian columns are capped with crystal chandeliers and doorways that lead to an urban garden of rolling lawn and terrace. The in-house spa is one of the better in the city with indoor pool that's the one drawback of the property in comparison to nearby Four Seasons and its grand outdoor pool scene. Dining options border on the formal aside from the more casual terrace eatery, with in-house Oak Room lounge that's one of the area's top late night draws.

The Room

Two separate guest room annexes offer a variable of more modern and period architecture; we suggest the series of suites in the main building as the best overnight option. Those familiar with Park Hyatt will find a familiar palette of darker and lighter hardwood floors, wood paneling and integrated work/living spaces in entry-level rooms. Larger suites feature additional perks like kitchenettes, elaborate terraces with neighborhood views and elevated décor in living areas.
