Along one of the poshest corners of Collins Avenue opposite the Delano and SLS, Gale South Beach is a sexy and fashionable hotel alternative with simple style and infrastructure of cool that isn't all about stilettos and white marble. A historic 40s deco facade yields to a stylish terrace and renovated lobby with rustic, wide-plank wood floors and Regency-inspired decor mixed with more-modern design elements. The owners also operate hotels like the Shelborne and Raffaello Chicago, bringing with them a new restaurant concept called Dolce specializing in Northern Italian cuisine in a dining room trimmed in knotty wood paneling and walls of glass that connect to an outdoor terrace. In the basement, Rec Room offers a boho dance bar for the South Beach's model and musician set from the creators of New York's Bungalow 8. While the hotel lacks the beach frontage of its neighbors, it does have a rooftop pool as well as beach access via the Shelborne just up the road.
The Room
A total of 87-rooms were built for scratch without the architectural limitations of other historic South Beach properties that come with dismal entry-level rooms. Signature rooms are bright and airy with color tones of white and aquamarine with back-and-white photography and spare white-marble bathrooms. Larger Terrazzo and Signature Grande rooms offer sexy outdoor spaces with large white loungers and club chairs with enough space to host a pre-club fete.
