Historic Design Hotel
A colonial residence located in Mexico City's Centro Histórico, Downtown is a hedonistic refuge immaculately cast in a 17th century landmark within a still-boho enclave of the city's historical core. From the creators of such hotel landmarks as Condesa df and Habita, owners Carlos Couturier and Moisés Micha make a bold design statement behind bold wood gates with bolthead detailing leading to a dramatic vestibule with iron staircase and cornice archways that reveal walls adorned in folkloric murals by Manuel Rodriguez Lozano. A small lounge overlaps into an indoor/outdoor eatery arranged in chunky red sectionals and cubist lounge chairs with a stylish edge. Not all design seriousness, the rooftop is reserved for true sun gods with chiseled abs and skimpy bikinis galore making their way from the terrace to the lower level pool bar.
The Room
A small hotel by any standards, a boutique refuge awaits check-in guests that discover a total of 17 rooms and suites that vary between outward looking neighborhood views enjoyed from small terraces to courtyard and interior views that tend on the noisy side before midnight. Rooms are simple, stylish spaces defined by 20-ft. ceiling with brick detailing, open bathroom with rain showers and C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries. Larger suites feature larger patios and more lounging room albeit with spare décor that’s better to look at than actually sit. While the neighborhood may require adjustment, it’s by far the most visually stunning hotel in the Mexican capital.
