Designed in 1432 by Filippo Brunelleschi, the architect of the Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore and formerly the residential seat of the Florentine noble Giuntini family; St. Regis Florence is the brand moniker awarded to the hotel following an extensive refurbishment of the former-Grand Hotel �" also managed by Starwood. The former-Grand Hotel Royal de la Paix is captured within a series of grand lobby room including a main reception period hardwood floors laid in imported rugs amongst an arrangement of wing chairs and double desks that conduct check-in and concierge services.
The hotel leans on the opulent, contrasting white plaster ceilings and arched doorways with a cushy renaissance-inspired collection of chairs and seating arrangements with gilded mirrors and elaborate lighting fixture from golden sconces to Murano glass chandeliers. At the center of the hotel is a grand restaurant space under two-story glass atrium ceiling featuring veiny marble floors and menu powered by famous Enoteca Pinchiorri.
The Room
Large by Florentine standards, St. Regis Florence is home to a total of 81 guest rooms and 19 suites that mix an ornate palette of gilded mirrors, velvet curtains and embroidered upholstery within spacious accommodations offering river and city views of the surrounding area. Incorporating many of the extravagant details of the previous hotels, rooms are arranged in crystal chandeliers, brilliant frescos and period antiques of a museum quality in select suites that come with outdoor salon overlooking the Arno River. White marble bathrooms are well sized and equipped with mirrors with inlay TV and double basin sinks with selection of branded toiletries.
