A 30-minute drive to Porto Cervo, Hotel Colluccia is located on the North coast of Sardinia facing a seaside panorama of the La Maddalena Archipelago next to a wildlife preserve with which it shares a name. One of the first boutique hotels on Sardinia, the property is a bold architectural statement of primary red façade with smooth white adjoining structures with asymmetrical roofline. Connected to the sea and a small beach club by a forest of coastal pines, the main resort features a large pool deck of equally quirky shape with collection of modernist lounge furnishings and cool crowd of younger couples and families. Inside, a lobby of natural stone floors frames walls painted in bold colors and abstract artwork in bold, ornate framing with a nod toward baroque. An on-site eatery lacks the panache of Porto Cervo's glossier eateries with similar modern style aesthetic and evening 5-course prix-fixe menu with a gastronomic bend.

The Room

Open from mid-May through late September, a series of 45 accommodations offers just two room categories arranged within 2-story guest wings. Simple design of bed with desk or bed with desk and sitting area, rooms are ignited by walls of subtle striping and furnishings with bold nail head and leather detail. Bathrooms are simple spaces with shower and bath combination with occasional sea or resort view. Not an ideal location for those looking to commute daily to Porto Cervo, the hotel does offer easy access to the towns of Santa Teresa Gallura and Palau.
