You may not know Peter and Jessica Frankopan personally, but you've likely experienced or at least seen their evolved design hotels at L'Hotel on Paris's Left bank designed by Jacques Garcia and aristocratic Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds northwest of London. Canal House brings their vision to Amsterdam's famed Keizersgracht canal, near the Frank House and Nine Street District, where they acquired three townhouses that have been conjoined into a singular spectacular design hotel.
Inspired by the dark and vivid tones of Rembrandt, Canal House will feature a monochromatic design of blacks, purples and grays accented by copper metals for a series of drawing rooms and interconnecting public spaces home to a bar and lounge as well as a formal restaurant. Given that their Paris eatery has a 1-Star Michelin rating, look for a high-pedigree of chef who will also preside over the Garden House and Summer House in warmer weather.
The Room
A total of five room categories are divided by size (Better, Great, Exceptional) and view, with canal-facing rooms on higher floors having the most space and highest price. Rooms feature reclaimed hardwood floors, dark wall treatments and whimsical lighting and accessories similar to the playfulness found at the owner’s Paris property. A total of 23 stunning rooms all come with well-sized bathrooms lined in mosaic tiles with double sinks and original local artwork found by the owners and their designers in what is the most anticipated Amsterdam hotel debuts in years.
