Luxury Beach Resort

Located 4 miles outside the town of Cabo San Lucas, Esperanza Resort comes into view along a rocky shoreline with clusters of palm trees that naturally camouflage architecture of earthy-colored stucco buildings with palapa-roofs and heavy stone detailing against a wavy ocean panorama. A gated, fortified entrance and thatch-roof porte-cochere feels every bit the private seaside residential experience it promises, Esperanza being the smallest and most spa-like of Cabo's three great luxury resort with just 57 rooms as well as array of private residences amongst wandering pathways adorned with Zen-like gardens with impressive art and sculpture collection.

Three oceanfront pools include the main pool area that's more modern than you'd expect of the hotel, with its bi-level infinity edge that descends onto a private sand beach between wedged between dramatic rock outcroppings. Rows of preening sunbathers indulge almost year-round, especially since the ocean is ill advised for swimming even more so than resort competition Palmilla or Las Ventanas due to those dramatic rocks that are pretty to look at but less than ideal to swim amongst in choppy waters.

The Room

If the experience of Esperanza feels like a spa retreat you’d find somewhere along the Sonoma Coast, it’s because it’s owned and operated by Auberge Resorts who also manage properties like Auberge du Soleil, Calistoga Ranch and Solage Calistoga that are the top luxury resorts in the Napa Valley. They bring their high-end spa concept to this Mexican landscape for a holistic retreat with freestanding spa that offers open-air treatment rooms and beachside massage cabana that’s feet from the crashing waves. Daily yoga classes are in a 1,000 square-foot yoga studio, free of charge, with outdoor showers and steam cave to follow. Rooms feel more Napa than Cabo, with luxury details and ample ocean views with a holistic aesthetic free of local themes.
