Its name means ""house befitting heaven" and since starting as a 6-room beachfront hotel in 1907 the hotel has evolved into the prime destination for luxury travelers whilst in Honolulu. Rising 17-stories on five acres of Waikiki Beach shorefront, the hotel is defined by its magnificent gardens of coconut palms, 200-year old Klawe tree and shaded courtyards that bring a bit of nature to often-concrete Honolulu.

Visitors arrive to a buzzy valet area and into a sweeping lobby heavily decorated with fluffy seating areas and reserved Asian details that's refreshingly free of Hawaii's design obsession with rattan and wicker. The hotel is home to an array of in-house eateries including gourmet La Mer eatery offering South of France flavors in definitely Hawaiian-inspired design setting with views of Diamond Head.

A heated 46-by-82 foot fresh water pool overlooking Waikiki Beach features intricate mosaic tile detailing and orchid detailing with outrigger canoe, surfing and snorkeling located on the beach below. A well-equipped gym offers 8-unit cardio area and access to Spa Halekulani with massages, body and facial services.

The Room:
Each of Halekulanis 453 rooms feature large and private lanais with the majority-offering panorama of the Pacific Ocean or less-attractive city-facing views. Entry-level rooms are over 500-sq. ft. in size and feature wall-to-wall carpeting with chairs by McGuire and business-style desks with Wifi and plug-in yet to be removed from the old days of the Internet. Well-designed bathrooms feature Kohler deep-soaking tub and separate glassed-in shower with thermostatic control. Junior Suites feature more space and two lanais, separate sitting area and wet bar with bay window. Top of the line Executive and Vera Wang Suite were personally designed by Wang with hand-selected furnishings in decadent living area with some of the best views in the house leading to formal dining room adorned with Wangs signature collection.
